Concordia Volleyball Claims First Place Trophy at Southeast of Saline Invitational

The Concordia High School Volleyball team went unbeaten Saturday, September 9th, capturing a first place finish at the 2017 Southeast of Saline Invitational Tournament. The victory marked the second tournament win for the Lady Panthers this season.
Concordia opened pool play Saturday with a 25-19, 25-14 win over Southeast of Saline. Panther Senior Cydney Bergmann compiled 13 kills, 2 blocks and 12 digs in the win. Senior Jessica Williams added 7 kills and 10 digs, while Senior Natalie Vines finished with 8 digs and 2 aces. Senior Setter Laken Schroeder had 23 assists in the match.
Also in pool play, Concordia defeated Smoky Valley 25-11, 25-14. It was the team's second win over Smoky Valley this year. Schroeder had 38 good sets out of 38 attempts, finishing with 17 assists, 6 digs and 4 aces. Bergmann led the team with 8 kills and 8 digs.
Concordia closed out pool play with a straight sets victory over Hillsboro 25-15, 25-16. Bergmann had 11 kills, 2 blocks and 18 digs in the win. Williams added 6 kills, 4 blocks and 6 digs. Vines had 9 digs in the match, while Junior Katlynn Miller added 6 digs. Schroeder finished with 19 assists and 6 digs.
In the tournament's semifinal match, Concordia defeated the Abilene Cowgirls for the second time this season, 25-19, 25-18. Bergmann once again led the way with 13 kills and 12 digs. Williams had 10 kills, 2 blocks and 9 digs. Vines added 12 digs, while Miller finished with 9 digs. Schroeder had 58 good sets out of 58 attempts with 23 assists, 1 kill, 11 digs and 3 aces.
To cap off the tournament, Concordia rallied from behind to beat Emporia in three sets 16-25, 25-15, 25-22. Bergmann finished with 14 kills, 6 blocks and 15 digs in the win. Williams had 11 kills, 4 blocks and 6 digs. Sophomore Taegen Larsen provided 5 kills. Schroeder had 68 good sets out of 68 attempts with 26 assists and 8 digs.
The Lady Panthers now sit at 13-2 on the season.
