Cloud County Community College Instructor Dennis Smith to Talk Star Gazing with Belleville Youth

Cloud County Community College Instructor of Physical Science Dennis Smith will talk to kids about star gazing Thursday, July 11th during the Belleville Public Library's 2019 Summer Reading Program.

Smith began his teaching career at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte in 1999 as a Graduate Teaching Assistant.  Smith came to Cloud County Community College in 2002 to fill the position of Instructor of Physical Science and assume the role of Observatory Director for the Earl Bane Observatory.

Besides astronomy courses, Smith also teaches courses in chemistry, geology, meteorology and general science. He is also a member of the Kansas Rural Water Association and is certified as a water quality professional by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

At 2 pm on Thursday, Smith will help Republic County youth take a trip to the stars when he shares stories of Galileo, the "father of observational astronomy."

The slogan "A Universe of Stories" was chosen by library professionals as the theme to this year's Summer Reading Program to help inspire children of all ages to dream big, believe in themselves, and create their own story.
