Gertrude Whitebread, age 98, entered into rest, Wed., Jan 10, 2018 at Sunset Nursing Center, Concordia. She was born on Nov. 3, 1919 in Concordia, KS to Jacob Benjamin and Pearl Mae (McNelly) Whitebread.

Gertrude attended school in Concordia and graduated from Concordia High School in 1937. She was employed for 2 years at the Clay County Welfare Department in Clay Center. She then worked for 2 years at the Sumner County Welfare Department in Wellington, KS. She returned to Concordia and worked for 11 years at Fairmont Foods, 2 years at Hugh Craig Insurance and Real Estate and then retired from The Federal Land Bank Association after 26 years of employment.

Gertrude was a member of The Episcopal Church in Concordia, St. Mary’s Altar Guild and St. Anne’s Guild of the church.

She is survived by a nephew, Richard Kimmal and wife Ella Mae, Wamego, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mildred Jordan, Mary Jane Cool, Winona Wright, Gladys Kimmal.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home from.

Graveside memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, with Rev. David Strommen officiating. Inurnment will follow the graveside service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Following the graveside service a reception will be held at Jitter’s downtown Concordia.
