Concordia Boys Basketball Team Unable to Keep Pace with Visiting Riley County in 61-42 Home Loss
A strong start that saw Concordia hit four of their first five shots from downtown gave the Panther Boys Basketball team an early lead over visiting Riley County, but the Falcons rallied back to outscore Concordia 49-24 over the final three quarters and hand Concordia their 12th loss of the season on Tuesday, February 11th.
Concordia hit 5-of-10 (50.0%) from behind the arc in the opening half, but fell cold in the second half, connecting on just 1-of-16 (6.3%) shots from downtown over the final sixteen minutes of action.
Junior Wing Chas Carlgren hit two threes in the first quarter, while Junior Guard Easton Atwood and Sophomore Guard Cav Carlgren each connected on a three-point basket of their own to give Concordia an 18-12 advantage heading to the second period.
Riley County opened the second frame on a 9-2 run to capture a 21-20 lead. Panther Senior Ivon Owen answered with a three-point bucket to give Concordia the lead again at 23-21. But the Falcons ended the quarter on a 10-2 run to lead 31-25 at the halftime break.
Riley County's run continued in the second half where the Falcons outscored Concordia 30-17 over the final two quarters to capture a 61-42 win.
The Falcons improve to 12-3 on the year with the win. They were led in the game by 6'3" Senior Center Garrett Harmison who netted 25 points. He was joined in double-figures by Senior Guard Ian Uphoff who had 15 points, as well as Senior Wing Furious Fleshman who scored 14 points.
Chas Carlgren battled foul trouble throughout the game but led Concordia with 13 points and 5 rebounds.
Cav Carlgren was also in double-figures with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Cav was named our Nex-Tech Wireless MVP of the Game.
Owen, winner of our H&R Block of the Game, finished the night with 5 points and 5 rebounds.
