Concordia High School Softball Team Captures Road Split with Republic County
The Concordia High School Softball team traveled to Belleville on Friday, April 12th for makeup games with the Republic County Buffaloes. The Lady Panthers won game one 12-6, before losing game two 9-8 in eight innings.
Concordia, who pounded out 21 hits in the first game, jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Lady Panthers added three more runs in the second inning, one run in the fourth, and three more runs in the fifth inning.
Hailey Budke earned the win on the mound in game one. Budke pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up 7 hits while striking out three batters.
At the plate, Taegen Larsen, Kendall Reynolds and Kassidy Leiszler finished the game with four hits each. Leiszler also led Concordia with five RBIs.
Trailing 5-2 entering the 7th inning in game two, the Lady Panthers rallied for three runs in the top of the 7th to send the game to extra innings. Concordia added three more runs in the top of the 8th, but Republic County responded for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to snag the victory.
Budke pitched 4 2/3 innings, while McKenzie Widen threw 3 innings in game two.
Budke also had 3 hits and 3 RBIs in the contest. Larsen led the way at the plate with 4 hits, while Allison Poore finished with 3 hits and 3 RBIs.
Concordia will host the Chapman Irish in North Central Kansas League play on Tuesday, April 16th.
