Concordia High School Softball Team Ends Season with First-Round Regional Loss to Nemaha Central
The Concordia High School Softball team saw their 2019 season come to an end on Monday, May 13th, falling 5-3 to the Nemaha Central Thunder in the first-round of their Class 3A Regional Softball Tournament. The Panthers finish the year at 5-14 overall.
Concordia pounded out 10 hits in the loss. Seniors Maddie Blochlinger and Allison Poore, Junior Taegen Larsen and Sophomore Kendall Reynolds each finished with two hits.
McKenzie Widen suffered the loss after pitching 3 1/3 innings, striking out one. Hailey Budke threw 2 2/3 innings, striking out two batters.
Nemaha Central scored first with one run in the bottom of the second inning. After Concordia took the lead following two runs in the top of the third, Nemaha Central responded with three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead. The Thunder scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning, while Concordia added a run of their own in the top of the fifth inning.
Nemaha Central lost their semifinal game to Rock Creek, 8-5. Rock Creek will now face top-seed St. Mary's in the championship game at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, May 15th.
