Derek Holmes Named New Head Boys Basketball Coach at Concordia High School

The USD 333 Concordia Board of Education voted on Wednesday, March 25th to name Derek Holmes as the new Concordia High School Head Boys Basketball Coach.  Holmes, the current Concordia Elementary School Principal, previously served as an assistant coach for the Panther Boys from 2010 to 2016.  He replaces Michael Roe who resigned this spring after eight years with the program.

A Kansas and Oklahoma All-State High School player, Holmes later attended Friends University where he received All-District and All-League honors in college.

A former Head Boys Basketball Coach at Altoona-Midway in Iola and Shawnee Heights in Tecumseh, Holmes joined USD 333 Concordia at the start of the 2008-2009 academic year as the Head Girls Basketball Coach.  In two years at the helm of the girls program, Holmes was 51-1 overall, leading the Lady Panthers to two straight state championship game appearances and a Class 4A State Title win in 2009.  Holmes was named the 4A Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2009.

Under Coach Roe, the Concordia High School Boys Basketball team was 83-88 overall, highlighted by a 4th place finish at the 2014 Class 4A - Division II Boys State Basketball Tournament.  Holmes served as an assistant coach for the boys program during that state tournament run.

The Panther Boys finished 4-17 this past winter.  Junior Wing Chas Carlgren garnered North Central Kansas League First Team honors, while Panther Junior Guard Wyatt Trost was named All-NCKL Honorable Mention.
