Emma Wahlmeier Captures a 2nd Place Medal in the 3A Girls 400M Dash at the 2019 KSHSAA State Track and Field Championships

Five members of the Concordia High School Track and Field teams competed Saturday, May 25th at the 2019 Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 3A State Track and Field Championships at Cessna Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University.  Qualifying to compete for Concordia was Sophomore Zoe Bechard, Senior Oakley Champlin, Sophomore Sierra Gropp, Senior Katlynn Miller and Senior Emma Wahlmeier.

Wahlmeier, a four-time state qualifier at Concordia, won the only state medal of the weekend for the Concordia Panthers after she scored a 2nd place finish in the Girls 400M Dash in a time of 59.76 on Saturday afternoon.

Emma, a signee to the Cloud County Community College Women's Track & Field program, has now medaled in the 400M Dash at the state meet in three of her four years at Concordia High School.  As a sophomore, Wahlmeier placed 2nd at the state meet, while she recorded a 3rd place finish in the 400M Dash during her freshman campaign.

Wahlmeier concludes her high school career as a seven-time state medalist.  Emma was part of the 4x100M Relay and 4x400M Relay teams that placed 3rd overall at the state meet in 2016, a member of the 4x400M Relay that finished in 6th place at the meet in 2017, and was a key piece to the Panther Girls 4x100M Relay that finished 2nd overall at the state championships last season.

Also on Saturday, the Concordia High School Girls 4x100M Relay team consisting of Wahlmeier, Bechard, Gropp and Miller posted a 10th place finish in a time of 51.51.

Champlin, the lone member of the Concordia High School Boys Track and Field team at the state meet, ended his Panther Track & Field career by capturing the 10th place finish in the Boys Discuss Throw on Saturday with a toss of 140'08".

The Concordia Girls 4x100M Relay team, along with Wahlmeier in the 400M Dash, originally were expected to run prelim races on Friday, May 24th, but a band of thunderstorms producing very heavy rain set up from the Oklahoma border north through the greater Wichita area, sparking a lightning delay just minutes before the Concordia Girls 4x100M Relay team was set to run.

After a three hour delay, the Kansas State High School Activities Association announced just after 4 pm Friday that all running events and field events were being postponed to Saturday.

There were no prelim races on Saturday.  All races were timed finals.
