This month, the public is invited to watch local law enforcement compete against local firefighters and paramedics in an annual softball game.

On Sunday, April 24th at 2 pm, the Concordia Fire Department will face off with members of the Concordia Police Department in the 3rd Annual Dave Aggson Memorial Battle of the Badges softball game at the Concordia Sports Complex.

Aggson, a former Technical Trooper with the Kansas Highway Patrol, passed away April 9, 2020 at the age of 71.  Aggson joined the Kansas Highway Patrol on September 18, 1974 as a trooper performing road patrol duties in the Beloit area and transferred to Concordia a year later.  He joined the Patrol’s Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) in 1991 and was promoted to master trooper in MCSAP in 1992.  In 2003, he became a technical trooper and continued his duties in MCSAP.  Aggson worked in MCSAP until his retirement on March 10, 2006.

John Primeaux with the Concordia Police Department said Aggson enjoyed playing slow-pitch softball, coaching Pee-Wee baseball and was a big supporter of the Battle of the Badges games.

A free will offering will be taken at this year's game, with proceeds going to support fire department training.

Kelsey Demanett with Concordia Fire/EMS says they have a good working relationship with area law enforcement, and the annual Battle of the Badges Softball game makes for an exciting and enjoyable display of good-natured socializing between law enforcement personnel and local firefighters and paramedics.
