College and high school students can now apply for Nex-Generation's Round Up for Youth Summer Internship Program.

Nex-Generation's goal is to give students hands-on experiences through a variety of programs in career development, internships, and entrepreneurship, and to encourage them to remain in Northwest and North Central Kansas.

Republic County Economic Development Director Luke Mahin says students in the program gain professional skills and broaden their perspectives on career options.

Local businesses benefit by networking with youth, bringing fresh ideas to the workplace, and "interviewing" students for potential future jobs – all of which contribute to youth retention to our small, rural communities.

High school and college students are matched with local businesses throughout Northwest and North Central Kansas for both work study opportunities during the school year and paid, summer internships.

This year, there are eight internship positions listed in Republic County.

A Little Hometown Shirt in Courtland seeks an intern to help with shirt production, sales, graphic design, social media marketing, and learning the ins and outs of a wholesale t-shirt business.  This intern is integral in their summer show sales and events planning.  Production of product will also be a big part of the intern's summer.

C&C High Tunnel Farms in Scandia are looking for a self-motivated individual who can follow directions, work unsupervised, and be organized.  They are looking for an intern who is interested in local foods and specialty crops.  They will be involved in planting, weeding, harvesting, marketing, distributing, and selling the produce they grow.

Courser Lapo Clinical and Family Services in Belleville's summer intern will work closely with the administrative department of their mental health practice.  The focus will be learning about the clients, creating social media campaigns to target the practices' ideal clients, and updating marketing materials to mail to potential referral agencies, businesses, and more.

Hungry Hollow Ministries desires an intern that will coordinate with area agencies and churches on community missions projects, organize, lead, and educate volunteers, keep detailed records for donations, funding and money spent for supplies and project coordination, speak to local groups as requested, report to the Board of Directors at least monthly, monitor and update their website and social media presence as needed, and follow and promote the ministry's mission statement.

Modern Practice Support in Belleville is looking for a student intern that will engage in social media marketing of Virtual Assistant services to mental health private practices throughout the United States.  They will shadow and learn how Virtual Assistants help people seeking mental health services access high-quality therapy services to inform them of their marketing strategies.

The Republic County Recreation Association in Belleville needs an intern for golf course maintenance, including but not limited to, mowing rough, fairways, greens, weed eating, preparing sand bunkers, and preparing the golf course for tournaments.

Shrader Family Farm in Jamestown is after an intern that would raise produce from start to finish, market at local farmers' markets, coordinate with other producers for product sales, create ideas for other money-makers at market, organize and make decisions for potential additional work and grow space, do cost analysis of product production, soil and water testing, learn and implement conservation practices, pest control, farm management, maintenance, and repair.

The Swedish-American State Bank in Courtland wants an intern that would work closely with their employees and working the counter with the public.  The intern will learn the ins and outs of a bank, and assist with various projects. 

In Mitchell County, Heart Choices, Inc. seeks an intern to assist in planning, advertising, and carrying out fundraising events.  Also, developing a simple marketing plan for educating young women and men about the services of Heart Choices, and assist in social media posts directed at promoting their services.

NCK Tech in Beloit is after an Information Technology intern that will work directly with the IT Director to accomplish basic to advanced IT departmental needs.  This includes work with college employees and student needs.

In Jewell County, Possibilities in Mankato is seeking an intern that would be responsible for day-to-day operations of the coffee bar and trained in promotional advertising for the boutique.  The intern will work with business processes, such as filing and billing, customer service and inventory management.

Sweden Creme in Mankato needs an intern that would be learning about the ins-and-outs of the restaurant business.  This includes day-to-day operations, customer service, food costs and inventory ordering, systems management, leadership, and advertising.  Must be hands on and active, willing to learn, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, quickly evolving environment.

Also in Mankato, Walker Auto Service LLC is looking for an intern that will be working at either the Sinclair service station or in the shop at Walker Automotive, depending on skill level, experience, and interest.  At the station, the intern will be working in the shop on simple mechanic jobs such as changing oil and tires, helping customers, and running the register.  At the shop, the intern will be working on more in-depth mechanical projects, diagnosing problems, and helping customers.

The student application deadline is March 1st, while the 2022 Summer Internships will run from May 25th through July 29th.  Students age 16 and above who are living in or going to school in the 26 counties in the Dane G. Hansen Foundation's primary service area are eligible to apply online at connectnwk.org/nexgen/
