CHS Senior Burklee Jackson Represents Kansas at the 2026 Boys Nation

Burklee Jackson, a senior at CHS, recently attended the 2026 Boys Nation program in Arlington, Virginia, where he represented Kansas as one of two delegates to participate in the weeklong program.

Jackson, along with second Kansas delegate Alexis Zamora Reyes of Kansas City, Kansas, attended Boys Nation at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, from July 17 through July 25, receiving an education on the structure and function of federal government. At the event, each delegate acts as a senator from his Boys State. 

Jackson shares a look into what Boys Nation is and how the program kicked off at the beginning of the week for Boys Nation. 

The young lawmakers caucus at the beginning of the session, then organize into committees and conduct hearings on bills submitted by program delegates. Senators also learn the proper method of handling bills, according to U.S. Senate rules.

Jackson provides more details into how the committee hearings were structured. 

Alongside hands-on learning about the function of government, delegates to Boys Nation also attend lectures, forums and visit federal agencies, national shrines, institutions, memorials and historical sites. 

Jackson shares the experience that stood out the most from the week. 

Jackson says that meeting with delegates from other states and being able to build connections was a key highlight in his experience.
