Summer is heating up, and as you plan your backyard BBQ or block party, the City of Concordia would like to remind you of a few rules to help keep you and your loved ones safe.

1. Burn permits are not required for BBQ grills or fire pits 3 ft by 3 ft by 3 ft or smaller.  The minimum distance from a structure to the burning area is 25 feet.  Only natural vegetation, LP, natural gas or commercial made items for heating and cooking can be burned, and all material being burned must fit in the container.  The fire pit must be supervised at all times.  Fire pits may not be used if a burn ban is in effect.  Reference City Code Section 10-208 & 209.

2. Fireworks may only be set off July 1, 2, 3 and 4.  Fireworks may not be set off in the downtown business district.  Reference City Code Section 10-303.

3. Streets may only be closed for block parties or other events with prior approval of the City Public Works Department in consultation with the Police Department and Fire Department.  Such street closures will also require the written concurrence of all residents on the block
desired for closure.  The Block Party application form can be found at www.concordiaks.org under Permits & Licenses. Reference City Code Section 19-201.
