Cloud County Convention and Tourism came before the Cloud County Commission on Monday, July 17th to present its 2024 Budget of $199,478.

Cloud County Tourism promotes the historical, artistic and cultural treasures in Cloud County and in the communities of Concordia, Jamestown, Clyde, Aurora, Glasco, and Miltonvale.

Cloud County Tourism is governed by a ten member committee appointed by the Cloud County Commission.

Funding comes from a five percent countywide transient guest tax, imposed on the rental of rooms, lodging, or other sleeping accommodations, with quarterly payments from the state of Kansas to Cloud County.

In 2022, the transient guest tax collected $147,082.

There were 5,011 visitors to the Cloud County Tourism & Travel Information Center in 2022, the most since 2019, according to information provided to KNCK News.  Concordia is home to one of twenty-six community travel information centers approved by Kansas Tourism, providing informational brochures on destinations throughout Kansas, along with details about dining options, lodging, entertainment, outdoor activities, and historical attractions in Cloud County.

Cloud County Tourism also played host to twenty group tours with 482 visitors in 2022.

This year, Concordia topped TravelAwaits list of the 14 friendliest small towns in the United States.  According to TravelAwaits, Concordia "embodies midwestern hospitality at its finest.  Known for its warm and friendly residents, Concordia welcomes visitors with open arms and makes them feel like part of the community from the moment they arrive.  With its historic downtown, vibrant arts scene, and numerous parks, this small town offers a friendly and inviting atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression."

TravelAwaits' readers highlight their favorite travel destinations and businesses during their annual Best Of Travel Awards.  Readers nominate their favorite small towns, big cities, national parks, resorts, restaurants, and much more, in hopes that they will earn the Best Of Travel crown.  Nominations are reviewed by a panel of travel industry experts and writers for accuracy, and then readers vote for the remaining finalists to determine the winners in each category.

Nominations opened in mid-February, with voting commencing around the first of April.
