Dannie Kearn of Concordia has officially become the first candidate to file for the District 2 position on the Cloud County Commission.

Currently, Gary Caspers of Concordia is the District 2 Cloud County Commissioner.  Caspers has served as Cloud County Commissioner for District 2 since 2005.  The 2nd District includes Arion, Buffalo, West Lincoln, 1st - 2nd Ward of Concordia, 2nd - 2nd Ward of Concordia, and 4th Ward of Concordia.

Kearn is the former Transportation Director for USD 333 Concordia and owner of Kearn Auction.  Kearn officially filed by petition on Monday, May 6th and the Cloud County Clerk's Office has confirmed Kearn has secured the required number of valid signatures in order to be placed on the election ballot.

Last fall, Kearn was one of five candidates who sought two seats up for election on the Concordia City Commission.  Kearn finished third in the race.

The filing deadline for candidates is noon on Monday, June 3, 2024.

According to the Cloud County Clerk's Office, current County Clerk Shella Thoman and current County Treasurer JoDee LeDuc both filed for re-election on Monday.

As KNCK News was the first to report this week, Ken Davis has also filed for re-election as Cloud County Sheriff in 2024.

Davis, a Republican, has served as sheriff since 2021.  He succeeded Brian Marks who served three four-years terms as sheriff but did not seek re-election in 2020.

Davis has served as a law enforcement officer in Cloud County for over 20 years.  Prior to being elected sheriff, Davis was formerly a sergeant with the Cloud County Sheriff's Department and a corporal with the Concordia Police Department.

Davis is the second candidate to have filed for the position.  In March, former Cloud County Sheriff's Office Deputy Hans Hanson filed for sheriff.  Hanson, a Republican who currently works for the Belleville Police Department, will challenge Davis in the August 6th Republican Primary Election.

This year, all Cloud County positions are up for election, including County Attorney, County Clerk, County Register of Deeds, County Sheriff, County Treasurer, and all three County Commission seats.
