KDOT Launches Drive To Zero Crash Data Dashboard

On behalf of the Drive To Zero Coalition, the Kansas Department of Transportation introduces the newest tool to empower transportation safety professionals, local agencies, and the public in making data-informed and safety-conscious decisions.  The Drive To Zero Dashboard is an interactive web-based application allowing traffic safety partners and the public to understand the nature, frequency and locations of fatal and serious injury crashes in Kansas.

The data displayed comes from crash reports submitted by law enforcement officers occurring between 2016 and 2021 that involved fatalities and serious injuries.  KDOT plans to update the dashboard with 2022 data in fall of 2023 following the submission and processing of crash reports from law enforcement agencies.

The dashboard has been tested and displayed among Drive to Zero Coalition members, law enforcement partners and other transportation safety stakeholders.

“The Drive To Zero Crash Data Dashboard will help our agency and law enforcement agencies across the state easily pinpoint the most severe crashes or hot spots,” said Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingartner.  “Interactive tools like this will help local agencies identify contributing circumstances that negatively impact public safety and ultimately support the goal of everyone getting to their destination safely.”

The dashboard allows individuals, agencies and coalitions to see crash trends and work towards future safety solutions.  The dashboard is housed within a StoryMap that walks the user through using the dashboard and understanding crash data.
