As the weather gets nicer, everyone is excited to spend more time outside.  But let's not forget about our furry friends—our dogs.  Keeping them safe is important, so the Concordia Police Department offers some easy tips to help.

  • Keeping your dog on a leash or in a fenced yard stops them from running into the street or getting into trouble.
  • Some people might fear dogs or just not want them around.  A leash helps keep everyone comfortable.
  • Knowing your dog is safe means you can relax and have more fun outside.
  • Always use a leash when you're out for walks.  It's a simple way to avoid accidents.
  • Make sure there are no gaps or weak spots where your dog could sneak out.
  • Help your dog learn some basic commands like coming back when called.  It can help keep them safe.

The Concordia Police Department encourages you to make the most of the beautiful weather by making sure your dogs are safe and sound.  It's easy to do and makes a huge difference in keeping everyone happy and safe.  A little bit of care means everyone can enjoy the outdoors safely.  Let's have a great spring and summer with our furry best friends.

Remember, the City of Concordia has an ordinance that requires an owner to keep their animals on their property or properly restrained, with a leash, when off the owner's property.  Also, if you see a dog wandering unrestrained with no owner in sight, call the Police Department to report it.  And remember when a dog bite occurs, whether it is minor or serious, please report it to the Police Department.
