The 20th edition of an annual Down syndrome walk in Clyde is scheduled for this weekend.

The North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide support and resources to individuals with Down Syndrome and their families, hosts the yearly Buddy Walk.  Shella Thoman says the event is the premier advocacy event and most widely recognized public awareness program for the Down syndrome community.

The event will take place Sunday, October 1st at Clyde High School, beginning at 1 pm.

Organizers are expecting anywhere from 850 to 1,000 people to show up, as indicated by previous years.

The Buddy Walk is open to the public.

All proceeds will benefit the North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society and the National Down Syndrome Society for acceptance, education, and inclusion of individuals with Down syndrome.
