Employees of North Central Medical Center in Concordia got to have a little fun while raising money for a good cause.

Employees this month raised funds for the North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day on Tuesday, March 21st.  The North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide support and resources to individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.  The North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society was established in 2002 by two families in the North Central Kansas community.  Their mission was to ensure their children full potential in community life.  This mission is being fulfilled through education, research, and advocacy.

This past week, employees of North Central Kansas Medical Center were able to purchase tickets to vote for the person at the hospital they would like to see get a pie in the face, with proceeds going to support the NCK Down Syndrome Society.

Dave Garnas, Administrator, was the lucky person to get pied.

Project SEARCH is a program to train persons with developmental disabilities for high-need positions.  The Learning Cooperative of North Central Kansas provides employability and soft-skills training for students in the region, while North Central Kansas Medical Center, which is serving as the host site, is providing the training room and internship opportunities for learning skills for competitive, integrated on-the-job training at the hospital and in the community.

Garnas said North Central Kansas Medical Center is thrilled to train and work with the Project SEARCH students in the region.
