Leaders from Cloud County Health Center, Salina Regional Health Center and the City of Concordia gathered Friday, October 28th to celebrate the grand opening of North Central Kansas Medical Center, a new single-story, state-of-the-art health care facility located close to US Highway 81 along College Drive.

The Cloud County Health Center will change its name to North Central Kansas Medical Center as it transitions to the new building on November 16th.

Cloud County Health Center Board Chairman Phil Gilliland said the strength of a community can be linked to the presence of health care, providing emergency medical care and preventative care to those in need, while also employing hundreds of individuals and driving the local economy.

In March 2021, hundreds of community members and Cloud County Health Center administrators, board members and employees gathered for the groundbreaking of the new hospital in Concordia.

Hospital Administrator Dave Garnas said the new $40.35 million facility is a result of their desire to serve those in the North Central Kansas area looking for top-tier care.

Inside the new 76,000-square-foot hospital, the North Central Kansas Medical Center will have fourteen inpatient beds, 24/7 emergency department, a modern surgery suite for expanded surgical procedures, and outpatient services including a variety of pain management services and a wound care clinic.

The facility also will include the rural health clinic, the Family Care Center, which is staffed with seven providers offering appointments and a walk-in clinic with all appurtenant services such as Lab and Diagnostic Imaging.  There also will be a variety of visiting specialty clinic services including Rheumatology, Nephrology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Podiatry, Audiology, Pulmonology, Neurology, Pediatric Neurology, OB/GYN and Orthopedic Surgery.

The new larger Rehabilitation Department will provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology and aquatic therapy, as well as additional modalities for cardiac rehabilitation patients.

A loan through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) was used to finance the construction of the new hospital.

United States Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas said he learned long ago that in the absence of health care communities struggle to survive.  Senator Moran said the new North Central Kansas Medical Center ensures Concordia and Cloud County has a future.

The date for seeing patients at the new North Central Kansas Medical Center has been pushed back to November 16th due to continued complications from workforce shortages and supply chain issues.

Garnas says staff shortages are haunting every industry, and ultimately, this decision comes down to the timelines of their cabinets and countertops being completed and in place.
