North Central Kansas Medical Center Project On Time, On Budget
The North Central Kansas Medical Center, a new single-story, state-of-the-art health care facility in Concordia, is set to open this fall.
In an effort to meet the growing health care needs of the community, Cloud County Health Center broke ground on a new hospital in March of 2021. The new facility will be located close to US Highway 81 along College Drive.
The Cloud County Health Center will change its name to North Central Kansas Medical Center as it transitions to the new building.
On this week's edition of KNCK's "Community Connections," Hospital Administrator Dave Garnas said the project remains on time and on budget.
Inside the new 76,000-square-foot hospital, Cloud County Health Center will have fourteen inpatient beds, 24/7 emergency department, a modern surgery suite for expanded surgical procedures, and outpatient services including a variety of pain management services and a wound care clinic.
The facility also will include the rural health clinic, the Family Care Center, which is staffed with seven providers offering appointments and a walk-in clinic with all appurtenant services such as Lab and Diagnostic Imaging. There also will be a variety of visiting specialty clinic services including Rheumatology, Nephrology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Podiatry, Audiology, Pulmonology, Neurology, Pediatric Neurology, OB/GYN and Orthopedic Surgery.
The new, larger Rehabilitation Department will provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology and aquatic therapy, as well as additional modalities for cardiac rehabilitation patients.
Garnas told KNCK News additional exterior work is the next step in the construction process.
McCownGordon was selected to provide Construction Management At-Risk services and serves as the general contractor on the hospital build. TreanorHL did the design work for the facility and Clark & Enersen are the engineers on the project.
Garnas said he's been pleased with the progress that's been made on the project.
Cloud County Health Center along with support from Salina Regional Health Center first announced plans to build the new modern medical facility along College Drive in Concordia in July 2019. The hospital has a clinical and operational affiliation with Salina Regional Health Center to better serve their patients and communities.
In 2020, Cloud County Health Center announced they had obtained financing from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) through a program that develops essential community facilities in rural areas to construct, purchase equipment and pay related project expenses for the new health care facility in Concordia, continuing to be one of the few hospitals in the state of Kansas that does not receive tax support.
