K-State Research and Extension – River Valley District is holding a Welcome A-Board: Board Leadership Basics series.

The Welcome-A-Board Leadership Series is a four-part series offered once a week for four weeks.  Wade Reh, River Valley District Director, says if you are new to a local community-based board or feel you want a refresher, this program covers a number of topics to help board members and their organizations become more effective in their efforts.

The course is designed to provide basic training for members of community-based boards.  The goal is to foster informed and committed board members, which are key to healthy, effective boards and committees in our Kansas communities.

The Welcome-A-Board Leadership Series will provide an opportunity for board members to learn the basics of being a good board member.  Whether you are a member of a church board, a township board, or a non-profit agency board, this training is appropriate for you. 

The Program will be offered at the Clay Center Extension office from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  The cost will be $40 dollars per registration for the entire series.  Registration is required.

Reh says the first session on February 28th will focus on how organized groups function and what is your role when asked to serve.

Session two on March 5th will be about understanding and working with fellow board members, interacting with different generations, working with different behavioral styles, and managing conflict.

The third session on March 12th will address financial responsibilities, fundraising, legalities, and ethics of non-profit boards.

For the final session on March 19th, Reh says they will cover strategic planning for boards and groups.
