USD 333 Concordia Board Accepts Bid for Middle School Renovation Project

The USD 333 Concordia Board of Education met for their latest regular meeting on Monday, April 11th where they voted to approve the purchase of insulation for the Concordia Middle School remodel project from Erickson's of Concordia at a cost of $108,352.74.

Work to re-establish the former Concordia Middle School facility at 1001 E. 7th Street as a learning center for 5th and 6th Grade students started in January 2022.

Last month, the board approved six bids to bring renovations and improvements to the former Concordia Middle School facility, including all new flooring, new classroom furniture, new hallway lockers, new kitchen equipment, a new fire alarm system, and the installation of a new gas system.

Originally, the district hoped to begin the 2022-2023 school year in the updated facility, but Superintendent Quentin Breese released a statement on March 31st saying that timeline can't be met at this time due to a number of variables.  It remains the school district's intention to meet their new timeline goal of reopening the facility in December of 2022 or early January 2023.

Following a presentation from Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher Dan Hyman, the board voted Monday to approve the purchase of two Challenger CL10V3 automotive lifts with Versymmetric technology with 3-stage front and 3-stage rear arms from Miller Tool, Inc. of Kansas City, Kansas at a total cost of $14,994.78.

In personnel matters, the board accepted the resignation of Concordia Junior/Senior High School Physical Science and Physics teacher Kathy Poore, and approved the retirement of Special Education Teacher Cindy Peters effective June 1, 2022.

The board also named Trey Kuhlman as Concordia High School Head Girls Basketball Coach, replacing Carly Bloomfield who resigned in March after two seasons as the Head Girls Basketball Coach.  Kuhlman, a 2017 graduate of Republic County High School and a 3rd Grade teacher at Concordia Elementary School, had served as an Assistant Coach for the Lady Panthers for the last two years.

Sofia Gallup was hired as an Assistant Girls Basketball Coach.

Bobbie McWhorter has been named the Head Spirit Coach.

Amy Wildeman has resigned as Concordia Middle School Secretary.  Jeni Johnson has been transferred from part-time District Nurse to full-time Concordia Middle School Nurse and Secretary.

The board also held a 20-minute Executive Session for Negotiations with Superintendent Breese.  The board also held a 20-minute Executive Session with Breese and Concordia Middle School Principal Curtis Noon to discuss matters relating to actions adversely or favorably affecting a student.
