Chris “Dewey” Thoman, 69, of Concordia, Kansas, died at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 30, 2023. He was born in Denver, Colorado on March 13, 1954 to Delmer Sr. and Virginia “Ginny” M. (Ray) Thoman. 

He graduated from Concordia High School in 1972. He then joined the Navy serving until 1975. 

Chris married Carla Jane Kallman on July 14, 1990, and they have four children, Jennifer, Joshua, Jeremy, and Terri. 

Chris worked as a welder and a truck driver for most of his career. He took pride in his skills as a bartender and bragged about using them to win over Carla at The Thunderbird, where she worked as a waitress and he as a bartender.

He loved watching sports from Concordia High School Athletics to KU basketball, and Royals and Braves baseball. He and Carla were 30 year season tickets holders to the Kansas City Chiefs. 

He will be remembered as a jokester who loved his family fiercely. 

Chris is survived by his wife Carla; his children Jennifer Thoman of Atlanta, GA, Joshua (Adam) Thoman of Offerle, KS, Jeremy (Clare) Thoman of Kyle, TX, and Terri (Gabe) Hemenway of Hutchinson, KS; 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Delmer, Jr., Kent and Jack Thoman; caretakers, Alexis Minick and Marlee Hammond.

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Services will be held at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home on Friday August 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with burial following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Samantha Stensaas will be the Celebrant.  Visitation will occur on August 3, 2023 from 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00p.m.

Military Honors will be conducted by the US Navy and the local American Legion Post #76 and V.F.W. Post #588.

Chris’ final wish was for all in attendance to be in Chiefs gear.
