Douglas B. Fate, 79, of Overland Park, Kansas, former area resident and the son of William L. Fate and Mary Louise (Huscher) Fate, was born November 5, 1942 in Concordia, Kansas and passed away on October 24, 2022 at Morningside Assisted Living, Overland Park, Kansas.

Doug grew up in Hill City, Kansas, graduating from Hill City High School in 1960.     In 1963, he was united in marriage to Mary Kerr and to this union was born, Don, Bill and Bruce.    They were later divorced in 1985.

Doug worked for the U.S. Postal Service in the 70’s and later was employed at CE Manufacturing from 1976 until 1980.   He then returned to the Postal Service until his retirement.     Doug also farmed part-time most of his life.

He loved to take his boys hunting and to baseball games. He was a big sports fan and loved the royals and the ksu wildcats.  He coached all of his kids in baseball.  Doug loved to play baseball and was quite good at it and he played softball until he was in his late 40’s traveling around Kansas and Nebraska paying fast pitch.    You didn’t wat to get hit by one of his dirt clods!

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Fate.

Doug is survived by three sons,  Don (Diana) Fate, Bill (Robyn) Fate, and  Bruce (Kristi) Fate;  Grandchildren:  Zach (Samantha) Fate, Mallory (Lane) Lassiter, Savannah Fate, Karli Fate, Riley Fate, and Delaney Fate; one brother, David (Tasha) Fate;  three sisters, Mary Ann (Howard) Gomer,  Margaret (Doug) Mall, and Darlene (Jerry) Baker;  other relatives and friends.

Cremation was selected and Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Zion Cemetery, rural Belleville, Kansas.

Inurnment will follow the memorial services.

Friends may call to sign the register book from 1 PM until 5 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Faith Hospice in care of the funeral home.
