Beloved, dedicated wife, mother, and nana, Emily Carlgren, passed away on October 10, 2023, surrounded by her husband and children after a courageous fight with ovarian cancer.

Emily Carolyn was born on July 30, 1944 in Courtland, Kansas to Earl and Ruth (Linden) Tebow. She graduated from Courtland High School, where she met her forever sweetheart, Robert.  Emily moved to Manhattan, attended, and graduated from Crum’s Beauty School. She was united in marriage to Robert Carlgren on December 29, 1963 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Norway, KS.  They were blessed with three children Troy, Tarra and Terelle. Robert and Emily bought their farm south of Norway in 1970 and worked hard to make their life and the lives of their children successful and happy. Emily was a remarkable woman, loving wife, mother and devoted nana. She cherished her children and embraced every moment with them, instilling values that would shape their lives.  Full of energy, Emily radiated love, making those around her feel cherished and valued.

With a servant’s heart, Emily was known for her unwavering faith, amazing flower gardens, and commitment to making others happy, especially her husband, children and grandchildren.  Their fondest memories are times spent with their family.  Emily and Robert loved attending activities/athletic events of their grandchildren and supporting the K-State Wildcats. Her family savored the labor of her work in the kitchen, especially Swedish pancakes, rye bread, pies and cinnamon rolls.  Emily enjoyed entertaining her family knowing she would imprint lifelong memories.  She was adamant about creating a dining experience with amazing food and a beautifully set table. If there was a family struggling, food made with love was delivered. With a seemingly endless well of energy Emily would tackle any project for the betterment of her family, church, and community. The ultimate farmer’s wife, Emily faithfully prepared meals for Robert and the crew, making sure all were well fed at home, or in the field.

Emily and Robert have been committed members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Norway, KS.  This church has been a significant, sacred place where their faith and family were nurtured and loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruth Tebow, her father-in-law, Ivan Carlgren and four brothers; Marvin, Warren, Melvin, and Howard, brother in law, Lonnie Sedlacek.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Carlgren of Norway, KS, her mother-in-law, Aileen Carlgren, Belleville, KS.   One son, Troy (Allison) Carlgren of Courtland, KS, two daughters; Tarra (Eric) Freberg of Overland Park, KS, Terelle (Tim) Mock of Lawrence, KS.  Nine beloved grandchildren to whom she was fully devoted: Dawson (Mckenzie), Brailyn and Brody Carlgren; Dane, Dylan, Drew and Lauren Freberg; Ashley and Piper Mock.  Also surviving, her brother, Larry (Linda) Tebow of Courtland, KS, two sisters, Arlene (Duaine) Sherwood of Manhattan, KS and Lorna (Dennis) Lauritzen of Courtland, KS.   In laws, Catherine Tebow Eckerberg, Ed (Jane Ann) Carlgren, Scandia, KS, Elaine Sedlacek, Belleville, KS, and her much loved nieces and nephews, close family relatives, and many cherished friends.
