A slow start and poor-shooting first half of action created a 40-14 halftime deficit for the Cloud County Community College women's basketball team as host Cowley handed the T-Birds a 75-48 road defeat inside W.S. Scott Auditorium in Arkansas City, Kansas on Wednesday, February 28th.

Dropping a third-straight game which leads to a season split of a home-and-home series with Cowley, Cloud County falls to 13-14 overall and 9-13 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference with the defeat. The win for the Tigers allows Cowley to overtake the T-Birds in the KJCCC standings by improving to 16-13 overall and 10-13 in the KJCCC while holding the tiebreaker over CCCC.

After shooting 15.6 percent (six-of-32) from the field in the first half, Cloud County finished the game with a 31.3 percent (20-of-64) field goal percentage and made two-of-13 (15.4 percent) attempts from beyond the arc. Cowley shot 50 percent or better from the floor up until the fourth quarter and finished the game with a 46.0 percent (29-of-63) outing despite a two-of-17 (11.8 percent) effort from three while going 15-for-19 (78.9 percent) from the free-throw line after not having a single attempt in the first quarter. The lone statistic to favor the T-Birds in the game was rebounding with CCCC holding a 44-34 advantage on the glass while seeing Cowley hold a 26-8 advantage in points off turnovers and a 48-14 advantage in points in the paint.

With just five total players finding their way into the scoring column, the T-Birds were led by a team-high 16 points from Maimouna Sissoko who also grabbed 18 rebounds and had three steals in 32 minutes of play while Bailey Burns and Josephine Igherighe each had 11 points. Destiny Smith accounted for seven of the remaining 10 points scored by Cloud County with Sarah Lawless scoring three points. Four of Cowley's five starters reached double-figures with Hattie Pyle scoring a game-high 17 points and grabbing nine rebounds while Anna Przyszlak added 16 points, four rebounds, and three steals.

What's Next?
The final home game of the regular season for Cloud County will see the T-Birds play host to Butler Community College for a 2 PM contest on Saturday, March 2nd to close out the second-to-last week of the regular season. Butler picked up a 67-52 home win on Wednesday evening over Pratt to improve to 21-7 overall and 15-7 in the KJCCC while overtaking the number three spot in the conference standings. The Grizzlies earned an 82-58 home win over Cloud County back on January 17th in the first meeting of the season and have already secured a first-round bye in the upcoming 2024 NJCAA Region VI Basketball Tournament.
