Breaking an 18-year old school-record and setting the top time in the NJCAA outdoor season, Cloud County Community College women's track and field student-athlete Lucy Ndungu has been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

Competing last Friday at the 2023 KT Woodman Classic on the campus of Wichita State University, Ndungu ran a 5,000 meters time of 17:27.53 to eclipse the previous school record of 17:41.75 set back in 2005 by Cloud County Athletics Hall of Fame member Jolene Mick. The time for Ndungu would win the 57-runner race and is one of just two times in the 5,000 meters in the NJCAA to be under the 17:30 mark between the 2023 indoor and 2023 outdoor seasons.

Cloud County has now had a women's track and field student-athlete named KJCCC Athlete of the Week three consecutive weeks with Vanessa Mercera earning the honors last week while Vimbayi Maisvorewa was named KJCCC Women's Track Athlete of the Week on March 28th.
