Concordia Baseball Swept in NCKL-Opening Doubleheader Against Wamego

The Concordia High School Baseball team hosted the Wamego Red Raiders for a North Central Kansas League doubleheader at Lee Doyen Field in Concordia on Tuesday, April 11th.  Wamego swept the Panthers, convincingly winning the first game, 19-12, before taking game two, 4-3.

The Panthers have now lost its last four games to fall to 4-4 on the season and 0-2 in NCKL play.

The Red Raiders won the opening game after scoring 19 runs on 14 hits, including 12 runs through the first two innings, aided by six errors committed by Concordia.  Junior Left Fielder Thomas McIntyre went 3-for-5 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBI.  Senior Center Fielder Hayden Oviatt went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, five runs scored and one RBI.

Concordia Junior Braeden Primeaux suffered the loss, throwing two complete innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and two walks allowed.  Junior Caleb Hanson pitched the final five innings, allowing seven runs, five earned, on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

The Panthers tallied 19 hits in game one, including a three-run home run by Junior First Baseman Keegun Beims in the bottom of the first, but left ten runners on base.

In game two, Wamego gained an early 3-1 lead with one run in the top of the first and two more runs in the top of the second.  The Panthers scored in the bottom of the fifth to cut into Wamego's lead at 3-2, but the Red Raiders responded with a run in the top of the sixth and managed to hang on for the 4-3 win.

Concordia was limited to three hits in the contest.

Senior Lane Jeanneret, who threw three innings in relief action in the first game, returned to the mound for the final 1 2/3 innings to capture the save.  Jeanneret only allowed two base runners.

Sophomore Cody Mayer earned the win, pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs off two hits while walking six and striking out seven.

Junior Maddox Frey ended up with the loss for the Panthers.  Frey threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs off six hits while notching five strikeouts and permitting seven walks.

Senior Shortstop Stryker Hake had a triple, Junior Left Fielder Dustin Sterrett had a double, and Junior Catcher Joey Henderson scored two runs in the loss.

Concordia is scheduled to host the Chapman Irish in a North Central Kansas League doubleheader on Tuesday, April 18th.  First pitch of the first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4:30 pm from Lee Doyen Field at the Concordia Sports Complex.
