Concordia Boys Basketball Wins Home Opener Over Riley County

The Concordia High School Boys Basketball team won its home opener on Tuesday, December 5th, beating the Riley County Falcons 67-46.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead, aided by Sophomore Center Chane Parker who scored five of the team's first seven points.  Senior Guard Payton Breese and Junior Guard Peyton Retter each added first quarter three-point baskets to give Concordia a 15-8 advantage heading to the second period.

Breese's hot-hand continued in the second frame.  He knocked down 4-of-7 outside shots in the opening half and Concordia took a 36-16 lead into halftime.

The Panthers were never threated in the second-half, building their lead out to as much as 29 points before settling for the 21 point victory.

Breese had 23 points off 9-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-11 makes from behind the arc.  He was named the recipient of our H&R Block of the Game.

Parker posted a double-double with 16 points, connecting on 7-of-10 from the field, and pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds.  Parker was selected as our Nex-Tech Wireless MVP of the Game.

Retter was also in double-figures with 15 points.

Senior Point Guard Joey Henderson added 7 points and 4 assists, while Junior Luke Donovan came off the bench to score 4 points and yank down 9 rebounds.

Senior Cody Sharp had 9 points to lead Riley County.

Evening up their record at 1-1 on the year, the Panthers will host the Smoky Valley Vikings on Friday, December 8th.  Smoky Valley is 0-2 on the season following a 79-52 loss to Abilene and a 55-41 loss to Southeast of Saline.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.  Live coverage of the game can be heard on 1390 KNCK, 98.3 FM and NCKToday.com
