Concordia High School Wrestling Team Holds Postseason Banquet

The Concordia High School Wrestling team held its 2022-2023 postseason banquet on Sunday, March 19th at the Concordia High School cafeteria, handing out multiple awards and recognizing another successful year on the mats.

The Panthers finished out the year with a dual record of 3-2 in the North Central Kansas League.  The team earned first place finishes at the Wamego Invitational, the Louisburg Duals, the Republic County Holiday Duals, and the Clearwater Boys and Girls Wrestling Tournament, and second place finishes at the Hoisington Cardinal Classic and the Beloit Invitational.

In February, the team finished third in the 2023 Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 4A Regional Wrestling Tournament in McPherson, and six wrestlers qualified for state competition.

Concordia High School Seniors Koby Tyler (120 lbs.) and Daniel Vines (132 lbs.) both took home 5th place medals at the 2023 Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 4A State Wrestling Championships in Salina on February 25th.  Vines, a two-time state medalist, ended his senior season at 41-7.  Tyler closed out his senior campaign with a 37-5 record.  Both have committed to wrestle at Cloud County Community College in Concordia next year.

Tyler and Vines both earned All-League First-Team honors this season, along with two-time state qualifier Christian Belden (106 lbs.) and Ashton Dooley (113 lbs.).   State qualifiers Caleb Hanson (175 lbs.), Tracer Murdock (190 lbs.), and Michael Ashland (285 lbs.) received All-League Honorable Mention nods.

Vines was named the recipient of this year's Panther Award, presented by the Concordia High School coaching staff.  Vines led the team with 41 wins, 23 pinfalls, eight technical falls, 218 points, and 73 takedowns.  He also led the team in two-point and three-point near falls.

Tyler was selected as the Most Outstanding Wrestler.  Tyler led the team with seven major decisions.

Sophomore Drew Sterrett received the team's Young Wrestler Award.

The Doug Moore Scholarship Award, selected by the Class of 1995, went to Senior Bergun Kindel.  Kindel led the team with 16 reversals on the year.
