Concordia Panther Football Team Ends Season with 3A Bi-District Playoff Loss at Pratt

Playing their second undefeated team in as many weeks, the Concordia High School Football team saw their 2018 season come to an end Friday, October 26th, falling in a Class 3A Bi-District playoff game to the Pratt Greenbacks, 52-27.

Pratt, this year's Central Kansas League Champions, will host the 8-1 Colby Eagles next week in a second-round playoff bout. Colby took down Kingman at home Friday, 51-21.

Concordia, making their first trip to the playoffs since 2015, concluded this year by losing three straight games, their longest losing skid in two years. They finished 3-6 overall.

The Greenbacks jumped on the Panthers early, scoring three touchdowns on their first four offensive plays of the game.

Pratt's first score came on their first play from scrimmage on a 63-yard run from 5'9" 199 lbs. Senior Quarterback Travis Theis just 13-seconds into the contest.

After holding Concordia on a three-and-out, the Greenbacks ended a quick two play, 65-yard drive with Theis breaking free on a 54-yard touchdown run with 8:56 left to play in the first frame.

Following a failed fake punt attempt by Concordia, Pratt began their third series of the game inside the Panther 30-yard line. Senior Slot Back Kadence Riner would find the end zone on a one play, 28-yard run to put the Greenbacks ahead 21-0 with 7:43 remaining in the opening quarter.

Then, after another Panther three-and-out, Pratt would add their fourth touchdown of the opening period on a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Theis to advance the score to 28-0 heading to the second quarter.

The Panthers ended the night just 1-of-8 on third downs.

Concordia, though, was determined to claw their way back into the game.

On the ensuing possession, the Panthers would start to make their mark offensively. Concordia marched 83-yards on ten plays, scoring their first touchdown of the ballgame on a 4th down and 5 play from the Pratt 25-yard line when Senior Quarterback Dyelan Reed connected down the middle of the field on a pass to Sophomore Wide Out Wyatt Trost.

Later, the Concordia defense would force the Greenbacks to turn the ball over on downs at the Panther 24-yard line with under 6-minutes remaining in the second period.

Three plays later, Concordia Freshman Keyan Miller would skate free and score on a 63-yard rushing touchdown.

Reed would hook up with Sophomore Halfback Chas Carlgren on the two-point conversion pass and the Panthers trailed 28-14 with 4:52 left to go in the first-half.

But the Pratt offense wouldn't slow down, with Theis swiftly notching two more rushing touchdowns before the intermission -- a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:09 remaining, and a 76-yard run with 22-seconds left to go.

With five rushing touchdowns Friday, Theis now has 28 rushing touchdowns on the year. Pratt led 42-14 at the halftime break.

The Greenbacks would capture their biggest lead of the game at 38 points late in the third quarter following an 8-yard touchdown run by Senior Backup Quarterback Caden Blankenship and a 22-yard field goal by Senior Kicker Daniel Sanchez.

Down 52-14, the Panthers would respond with a 94-yard kick-off return for touchdown when Miller handed the ball off to Trost, catching the entire Pratt coverage team off guard.
