Concordia Softball Team Loses a Pair of League Games to Chapman

The Concordia High School Softball team lost a pair of games to the Chapman Irish in North Central Kansas League play on Tuesday, April 18th.

The Panthers, who fall to 4-8 on the season and 0-4 in league play, lost game one 5-1 in eight innings, and then dug themselves an early 5-0 hole on their way to a 7-5 loss in game two.

In the first game, the Panthers led 1-0 heading to the top of the seventh inning.  Chapman DP Zoey Saum led off the inning with a single to right.  Courtesy runner Raleigh Lusk scored off a pair of throwing errors to tie the game and force extra innings.

Chapman loaded the bases In the top of the eighth.  Saum drove in two runs with an RBI single to center to give the Irish a 3-1 lead.  Saum and Teagan Ellis, who reached on an error, also came around to score to give Chapman a 5-1 advantage.

Concordia Senior Pitcher Hanna Acree was able to reach with a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth, but a flyout by Sophomore Kenlee Williams ended the game.

Acree fell to 2-4 on the season with the loss.  Acree had 12 strikeouts and only permitted one walk and one hit batter.

Chapman Sophomore Madalynn Harold earned the win on the mound.  Harold struck out 15 batters while giving up 4 hits and 3 walks.

The Panthers bats struggled to get going in the second game and the team fell behind early before falling 7-5.

Concordia will host Abilene for Senior Night on Tuesday, April 25th.  First pitch of the league doubleheader is scheduled for 4:30 pm from the Concordia Sports Complex.
