Dominant Second Half Leads Concordia Boys to Home Win Over Republic County
The Concordia High School Boys Basketball team posted a dominant second half to defeat Republic County, 62-38, on Tuesday, January 3rd. The Panthers improve to 5-2 overall with the win.
The first quarter was back-and-forth with six lead changes and six ties. Concordia had five different players score in the opening frame, but Republic County managed to grab an early 14-13 lead at the end of the period.
The two teams combined to shoot 23 free-throws in the first-half. Republic County Senior Post Sam Thumann scored 9 of his team-high 18 points in the second stanza, but Concordia connected on 10-of-22 (45.5%) from the field and 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the foul line in the first half to grab a 29-26 advantage heading to the locker room.
The Panthers caught fire in the third quarter, outscoring the Buffaloes 17-5 in the period. Concordia, sparked by 17 points off turnovers and 9 second-chance points, continued to pour it on the fourth quarter, expanding their lead to as many as 24.
Four players finished in double-figures, led by Joey Henderson with a game-high 22 points. Henderson was named our Nex-Tech Wireless MVP of the Game.
Payton Breese posted 11 points. Alan Garcia and Peyton Retter each collected 10 points.
Aceyn Cash finished with 8 points and 10 rebounds. He received our H&R Block of the Game.
Senior Alec Wildeman, in his first appearance of the season, added 1 point in the win.
Concordia continues its three-game homestand on Thursday, January 5th with a North Central Kansas League matchup against the Wamego Red Raiders.
