Cloud County Community College Athletic Director Matt Bechard has announced the hiring of Ed Deugan as the school's 11th softball coach in the program's 52-year history.

Most recently the top assistant at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa during the 2022 season, Deugan brings extensive knowledge and over 20 years of softball coaching and instructing experience from various collegiate levels to the T-Bird softball program.  In his lone season with the Beavers, Deugan helped lead BVU to a 27-15 overall record and a 10-6 mark in the American Rivers Conference to earn an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament for the first time in 24 years.

Prior to Buena Vista, Deugan spent three years at Iowa State University working under head coach Jamie Pinkerton as a volunteer assistant coach following a four-year stint at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa.  While at Iowa State, the Cyclones made their first NCAA Division I Softball Championship Tournament since 1988 and only second in program history while finishing the year with a 34-23 overall record and the school’s first appearance in an NCAA Regional Championship game.

In addition to spending time at Iowa State and Grand View University, Deugan has also served as head coach of Minnesota Crookston (2012-2014), Southern Wesleyan University (2008-2011), Andrew College (2001-2004), and Westminster College (2000).  Other collegiate coaching positions for Deugan include spending one season at Colgate University (2008) and two years Tennessee State University (2004-2006).

A 1997 graduate of the University of Iowa, Deugan served as softball manager at his alma mater while earning his master’s degree in athletic administration in 1999.  Through the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, Deugan has been certified as a 4-Star Master Coach, the highest possible certification.
