Eight Concordia Panthers Pick Up All-District Football Honors

The Concordia High School Football team had eight players voted to the 2021 Class 3A District 5 All-District Football Team.

Senior Running Back Keyan Miller, Senior Offensive Lineman Dalton Owen, Senior Safety Cav Carlgren and Junior Linebacker Stryker Hake were recognized as First Team All-District, while Senior Wide Receiver Alexis Garcia, Senior Defensive End Tyler Hobrock, Sophomore Linebacker Cameron Cleveland and Sophomore Offensive Lineman Keegun Beims picked up Honorable Mention All-District honors.

Class 3A District 5 includes schools Concordia, Chapman, Clay Center, Council Grove, Marysville and Riley County.

During his senior season, Miller led the team with 205 carries for 1,721 rushing yards, averaging 8.4 yards per carry.  He also led the Panthers with 23 rushing touchdowns.  His 3,352 career rushing yards rank as the second most all-time in Concordia history.

Miller ended the year with 1,995 all-purpose yards after he also caught 10 receptions for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Garcia was one of the top targets in the passing game this year with 11 receptions for 149 yards and a team-high 3 receiving touchdowns.  

Owen, along with Beims, led a Concordia offensive unit that is responsible for the Panthers breaking the school record for most points in a season with 419 (an average of 38.1 points per game), and most yards in a season with 4,209 (an average of 382.6 yards per game).  Ten different players combined to score 56 touchdowns for Concordia this season in posting the team's highest win total since 2014.

Cleveland, the top defensive player for Concordia, finished the season with 120 tackles, an average of 10.9 tackles per game.  Cleveland also had 7 tackles for loss and 3 fumble recoveries on the year.

Carlgren recorded 77 tackles and 3 interceptions this season.

The Panthers' defense allowed an average of 238.0 yards per game, including just 56.4 yards passing per game, and held their opponents to 24.1 points per game.

Hobrock was an absolute force on the defensive line for Concordia.  Hobrock had 41 tackles and 3 tackles for loss while leading the Panthers with 6 sacks.

Hake registered 76 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 6 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery.  Hake holds the school's all-time career interception record with 13, surpassing former Panther Defensive Back Blaine Newton who recorded 12 interceptions from 2009-2010.

Concordia Head Football Coach Jordan Echer has wrapped up his third season with the Panthers.  Echer led Concordia to an 8-3 season, its second consecutive winning year, and guided the team to the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs for the first time in 22 years.
