Hattie Blackwood Reaches 1,000 Assists, Concordia Volleyball Splits League Matches with Abilene
The Concordia High School Varsity Volleyball team earned a split on Tuesday, October 11th, winning one of two best-of-three matches during a road doubleheader against the Abilene Cowgirls in North Central Kansas League play.
The Panthers are now 14-14 overall and finished 7-3 in North Central Kansas League play, ending up in second place in the league standings behind the 9-1 Clay Center Tigers.
In the first match, the Panthers lost 20-25, 25-27. Junior Carlie Carlgren had 8 kills, 6 digs, and 5 points with 1 ace. Sophomore Taylor McDaniel finished with 7 kills, 6 digs, and 2 points with 2 aces. Senior Shaelin Giersch added 6 kills and 2 blocks. Junior Callie Parker posted 2 kills, 1 dig, 1 block, 1 assist and 1 point. Sophomore Kenlee Williams had 2 blocks and 1 kill. Freshman Kynlee Hamel provided 1 kill, 2 blocks and 1 dig. Senior Hanna Acree had 3 points and 10 digs. Senior Madison Starr turned in 2 digs. Freshman Baylen Arnold added 4 points, 8 digs and 14 assists, while Junior Hattie Blackwood had 5 points, 5 digs and 9 assists.
Blackwood has now reached the 1,000-assist career milestone.
Concordia captured a two-set win in the second match, 25-21, 25-23. McDaniel had 7 kills, 3 digs and 4 points. Giersch also had 7 kills, 2 blocks and 1 dig. Carlgren posted 6 kills, 2 blocks, 14 digs and 1 point. Parker finished with 4 kills, 3 blocks, 3 assists, 2 digs and 1 point. Hamel provided 4 kills, 3 digs and 1 assist. Blackwood posted 5 digs, 12 assists, and 9 points with 1 ace. Arnold notched 4 digs, 1 point and 9 assists. Acree finished with 12 digs, and 7 points with 1 ace, while Williams added 1 kill.
On Saturday, October 15th, the Panthers will play in their final regular season tournament when they travel to Sabetha for the Sabetha Invitational.
