KJCCC Announces 2025-2026 All-Academic Awards

The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has announced its 2025-2026 KJCCC All-Academic Award winners with 76 student-athletes across ten Cloud County Community College athletic programs finishing the academic year with at least a 3.5 overall GPA.

The Cloud County women's cross country team and baseball teams are the winners of the 2025-2026 Burnell Ukens Academic Teams of the Year Awards, given to the women's and men's T-Bird athletic teams that finish the year with the highest overall team GPA. The Cloud County women's cross country team finished with the best overall team GPA at 3.68, while the baseball team had the highest men's team GPA at 3.37. In total, seven of Cloud County's ten athletic teams posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher, including baseball, women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, softball, women's track and field, and volleyball.

The award, established in 2009, is named after longtime Cloud County employee and ambassador, Burnell Ukens. From 1965-1995, Ukens served as a valued member of the faculty at Cloud County, teaching mathematics. Burnell also led the college as the first Athletic Director for eight years. He started the tennis program in 1971, serving as head coach. Burnell also assisted track and field and baseball at various times throughout his career and served as intramural director. A dedicated family man, coach, and visionary in the realm of athletics, the Burnell Ukens Academic Teams of the Year award is to honor those teams that show academic excellence in the classroom in honor of an exceptional educator.
