Marysville Pulls Away in Final Quarter to Defeat Concordia 23-6

The Marysville Bulldogs pulled away late against Concordia Friday, September 22nd, scoring two rushing touchdowns and forcing two turnovers in the fourth quarter to take home a 23-6 victory, handing the Panthers their fourth loss to start the 2023 season.

Marysville, which has won back-to-back games, led 10-0 at the intermission after Senior Kicker Stephen Lowery drilled a 53-yard field goal in the first quarter, followed by Senior Quarterback Will Otott scrambling for a 22-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Panthers Senior Quarterback Braeden Primeaux, playing through pain with a noticeable limp following a leg injury suffered on defense on the second play of the game, led Concordia on an 80-yard touchdown drive to begin the third quarter, capped by Senior Halfback Mason Eickmann weaving through the defense on a 26-yard run.

Eickmann finished the game with 16 carries for 102-yards and a touchdown.  He was named our Nex-Tech Wireless MVP of the Game.

The extra point attempt was missed and the Panthers trailed 10-6 entering the fourth quarter.

Otott scored on a 1-yard quarterback keep with 8:37 remaining.  Eickmann blocked Lowery's point after attempt to make the score 16-6.

Following a Concordia turnover, Otott was able to get loose on a 17-yard touchdown run to make the final score 23-6.

The Panthers were held to 184-yards of offense, including 171-yards rushing.  Brothers Dustin Sterrett and Drew Sterrett had five carries each, while Junior Kaide Gropp had 3 carries for 15-yards.

Gropp also had one of two catches for the Panthers.

Concordia finished with three turnovers, including two fumbles lost.

Defensively, Junior Middle Linebacker Dane Cleveland tallied 17 tackles, including four solo stops.  Freshman Drake Blochlinger had 9 tackles, and Junior Jadrian Riley had 8 tackles.

Senior Keegun Beims, a starter on both sides of the ball, had five tackles, including one tackle for loss, and was named the recipient of our H&R Block of the Game.

Concordia will next play Hiawatha on Friday, September 29th.  The Red Hawks are 1-3 overall and are coming off a 75-13 loss to the Clay Center Tigers at home on Friday.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.  Live coverage of the game can be heard on 1390 KNCK, 98.3 FM and NCKToday.com.
