The Concordia High School Girls Basketball team carved up the visiting Republic County Buffaloes in the third quarter and rolled to a 51-39 victory in their first game back from the holiday break on Tuesday, January 3rd.

The Panthers flashed perhaps their best offensive output of the season in the third quarter, when they outscored the Buffaloes 14-1 in the first four minutes of the period.  With superior ball movement and great adjustments on the defensive end, Concordia would end up winning the third period 20-4, setting a new season-high for points in a quarter.

By the start of the fourth frame, the Panthers were comfortably ahead and managed to finish off an important win to go to 2-5 on the season.

For Concordia, they now have won two of their last three games heading into a showdown with state-ranked Wamego on Thursday, January 5th.  Wamego has won eight in a row over Concordia, dating back to the 2018-2019 season.

The Panthers haven't won back-to-back games since February 2020.

Concordia led by as much as 19 points in the second-half against Republic County.  Sophomore Forward Taylor McDaniel finished with a huge night, scoring 17 points off 7-of-8 (87.5%) shooting from the field and pulling down 6 rebounds.  McDaniel was named our Nex-Tech Wireless MVP of the Game.

Junior Guard Carlie Carlgren earned her first start since December 9th after returning from a high-ankle sprain injury.  Carlgren had 9 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals and received our H&R Block of the Game.

Senior Cianna DeLeon added 6 points and 5 rebounds.  Sophomore Guard Kinsleigh Bethune had one of Concordia's three made shots from behind the arc and ended the night with 5 points and 3 rebounds.

Both Senior Guard Emily Hansen and Sophomore Guard Avery Stindt led the way for Republic County with 14 points each.

The Lady Panthers return to North Central Kansas League play with their home matchup against undefeated Wamego on Thursday.  The Lady Raiders, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, picked up their sixth win of the season Tuesday with a 52-38 road win at St. Mary's.  Tipoff to Thursday's game is scheduled for 6 pm.  Live coverage of the game can be heard on 1390 KNCK, 98.3 FM and NCKToday.com.
